Tuckers Funeral was held on Saturday 21st December 2002 in the West Cross
Funeral parlour. Below is the speech made by Neil McLaughlan on behalf of
the band.
My first memories of Tucker were at School, Old Berryhill
Primary, then from there onto Wishaw High, Where we met up with one or two
menaces to say the least. But like most people here today, it was through
Flute Bands that most will remember Tucker.
Tucker played in many bands, from Craigneuk Accordion Band, through into
Craigneuk True Defenders, where he was a member for many years. Tucker was
also involved in the start of a new Flute Band, to the Wishaw area – The
Grenadiers, who like many other bands are present here today to pay their
respects to Tucker.
Tucker was a great Bandsman. When he was having fitted wardrobes installed
in his house, he spent most of the time telling the joiner to make sure that
four side drums and a bass drum could fit on the shelf.
Tucker could also be a bit quick tempered at times when band business was
the conversation and on many occasions Tucker would chuck the band on
Thursday but would be first on the bus on Saturday demanding to know what
size of a band we had on parade that day.
I remember Tucker played with Wishaw Flute Band. We were at a parade in
Larbett. Tucker played the bass drum at the time and had just purchased a
brand new set of sticks. Things were going well until a gentleman by the
name of Krakers asked for a shot of Tuckers sticks, which were still in the
bag brand new. Tucker being the man he was duly obliged. Two minutes into
the tune – snap – brand new sticks broke. Tucker turned an angry red colour;
Krakers ran that fast he got flashed by a speed camera.
My last memories of Tucker will be the many good times we had with The
County Flute Band. Anywhere we went Tucker gave 110%, Belfast, Scarborough,
all over the country, surely a great bandsman and an example to us all.
Tucker will be sorely missed by The County Flute Band and many many other
bands. But the legend of Tucker Sheen will live for ever and ever.
Could I ask you now, just for a few moments, while I read a last message
from the band, to think of Tucker and your best memories of him.
Feel no guilt in laughter

They would not want you to

The way you used to do

The days you spent together
All the happiness you shared

The County Flute Band. Gentlemen, On behalf of Tucker's Brothers,

splendid turn out & send off that Tucker was given. He would have
thoroughly enjoyed the turnout and the following that accompanied him to
the cometary. To Neil: It must have been hard to write your address but
10 times harder to read it. Well done for your efforts, Tuck would have
loved it. Having had him as a brother in law for 24 years and living so
close to him for the last 15 years Andrew & Bobby looked on him as a
brother instead of their uncle. He would arrive in our house requesting
" Put the kettle on Eliza ". That will never happen again, but the
kettle will always be ready. To you all our deepest thanks for all you
have done to give our Tucker the greatest send off he could have ever
had. This will live on in the hearts of many as one of the most touching

Tucker received the best send off I have ever seen. We wish he was still
here. He will be truely missed by all. Job Done mate. Give them hell in

I am so so sorry
to hear about the loss of our Tucker. He was the best man i had ever
knowen. You could'nt have meet a nicer man.We always got a laugh with

forgotten.Keep on druming with the Heaven Loyal. We
knew a lad they all called "Tuck"
we always thought he pushed his luck
when he wasn't around moaning or bumming
he'd be playing the flute, big or side drumming
From the C.T.D and the C.Y.D
he'd play the tunes for you and me.
Then on to Wishy then before you know
Tucker had helped start up number four
When the Grenadiers chucked it, he had a look
and that took him back to the heart of Craigneuk.
He said hang on here theirs something fishy,
theres a band needs me and their name is Wishy.
Well it was back to them and you know he was bounty,
when Wishy folded he Kicked "wi" The County.
All the bands uniforms were sky or royal,
ill bet you Tuckers joined The Heaven Loyal.
There wont be a day goes by where he wont be missed,
He helped us all I've gave you the list.
When any band out there needs a hand,
just think of "TUCKER"
and The Heaven Loyal Flute Band
