The band was
approached last August by E-MAIL by the members of Derriaghy LOL 135,
Ulster
to take part in their Annual 12th July Celebrations. This was a specific
request for a Scottish band from the
Lodge as this years parade was to be especially memorable to them as
they would have the honour
of leading not only the District but the main parade too.
Derriaghy is
situated 5-6 miles South of Belfast in County Antrim bordered by the
Nationalist
areas of Twinbrook and Poleglass estates to the west. LOL 135 are a
small Lodge of approx
25 Members and increasing all the time. They may not be large but they
boast of some distinguished
members, namely a Mid-Eighty year old who saw out the latter part of the
Second World War
in Colditz Castle and it was for him and others like him the 12th was to
be a special occasion.
The band was at
that time looking for a Lodge in Ulster to parade with on the12th and
this was
a perfect situation for
both band and Lodge. The Lodge took a chance booking us without hearing
us first but in May that year four Members of LOL135 travelled
over to hear us play at a band parade and were impressed with what they
saw and
heard with one member walking beside us with his mobile phone carrying
our sound back home.
From that day a great friendship was created.
The members of
The County Flute Band would like to thank Derriaghy LOL 135 for the
hospitality and friendship shown to us for our short stay. We especially
thank Nigel and
his good Wife for the way they ensured the band were looked after.
Below are a couple of pictures taken by the local
paper. The first shows the band
on parade and the second is a line up of the band in front of two of our
bass drums.
We know you know what we look like but please give the pictures time to
download.
On the day the band played superbly and were rewarded
with the
BEST BAND ON PARADE
trophy. The judging was done by independent and
impartial Judges and two members of the Lodge
came over to our club in September to present us with the trophy. The band are delighted with this trophy
considering we were up against a few excellent bands and view it as our best accomplishment for a long time.
As we say ' SIMPLY THE
BEST.'
P.S. The Webmaster was a bit P****D off that he
wasn't there.
